Just Not Being You
“David yanked it from his thoughts. ‘Tonight I almost hurt Laurie because of The Wave,’ he said. ‘I don’t know what came over me. But I do know that it’s the same thing that’s come over almost everyone who is in The Wave’.” (David- The Wave, pg. 125)
The Wave is getting to people, and it is messing with them. Earlier in the book, the Wave helped Robert be more successful in class, in participating. But this quote makes me think that the Wave experiment can act differently on people, and have people become someone they aren’t, or it could help people be better. The Wave can have a good effect on people in a group by making them more interested in stuff that they were not interested in before. More and more people will join the Wave, and that it will probably mess with them.
A theme that I can connect this quote with is fear. I can connect this quote with fear because when you think that something bad will never happen to you, and then it does, then you get scared and don’t know what to do then. If something like this happened to you, then you would be scared, because if you thought someone you knew would never do anything to hurt you, and then they did you would be shocked, or scared in a way. When something like this ever happened to me I know I would be scared, because I would not know what he/she would be doing, or if I knew the person what got them to think that they would do that.
When you're with a group and some of them do something wrong, more in the group may join in just because they don't want to be different. Being able to stand up for what is right isn't easy to do if your friends are doing something wrong. Have you ever been with a group of your friends and they started teasing or bullying someone? Did you join in or were you able to tell them that what they were doing was wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhen I hang out with my friends in a group they don't always tease or bully someone. I did not join in when they teased or bullied someone, I would just tell them to stop what they are doing.
